Good grain yields in 2014

The total grain production in 2014 is estimated at1 168 000 tonnes; an increase of 21 per cent from the year before.

According to preliminary estimates from The Norwegian Agricultural Purchasing and Marketing Co-operation, the total grain harvest consisted of 375 000 tonnes of wheat, 481 000 tonnes of barley, 275 000 tonnes of oats and 37 000 tonnes of rye in 2014.

The average decare yields of barley and oats were 382 kg and 385 kg respectively in 2014. The average decare yield of wheat was calculated to 474 kg.

Decrease in the area of barley

The area of barley dropped by 333 700 decares to a total of 1.26 million decares in 2014. The area of wheat sown increased by 242 400 decares to 790 800 decares, and the area of oats by 27 000 decares to 715 200.

A total of 11 500 holdings grew grain in 2014, and the average grain area per holding was 249 decares, compared with 244 decares the year before.
