Good grain yields in 2015

The total grain production in 2015 is estimated at 1 277 000 tonnes; an increase of 3 per cent from the year before.

According to preliminary estimates from The Norwegian Agricultural Purchasing and Marketing Co-operation, the total grain harvest consisted of 478 000 tonnes of wheat, 466 000 tonnes of barley, 263 000 tonnes of oats and 59 000 tonnes of rye in 2015.

The average decare yields of barley and oats were 380 kg and 418 kg respectively in 2015. The average decare yield of wheat was calculated to 559 kg.

Decrease in the area of barley and oats

The area of barley dropped by 38 500 decares to a total of 1.23 million decares in 2015, and the area of oats by 90 400 decares to 629 400 decares. The area of wheat sown increased by 64 100 decares to 855 800 decares, and the area of rye by 43 300 decares to 104 200.

A total of 11 100 holdings grew grain in 2015, and the average grain area per holding was 256 decares, compared with 250 decares the year before.
