Total production of wheat, barley and oats. 1989, 1995-2003*

A total of 336 000 tonnes of wheat, 572 000 tonnes of barley and 342 000 tonnes of oats were harvested in 2003. Most of the grain area is located to the eastern parts of the country, in the counties Østfold, Akershus and Hedmark.

Average decare yield of wheat for the entire country was calculated to 445 kilos in 2003. The largest yield per decare was achieved in Hedmark with 517 kilos, about 40 kilos more than in Akershus. Nearly half of the grain area in the southeastern counties of Vestfold and Østfold were sown with wheat.

The oats area increased by 47 000 decares to 846 900 decares in 2003. The area of barley was reduced by 183 000 decares to 1.62 million decares. The average decare yield of oats increased from 348 in 2002 to 404 kilos in 2003. The average decare yield of barley was 352 kilos.

Holdings with grain and oil seeds. 1989, 1995-2003*

The number of holdings growing grain and oil seeds was reduced by 1 100 from 2002 to 18 400 in 2003. The average grain area per holding increased from 107 decares in 1989 to 182 decares in 2003.
