Large grain yields in 2007

The total production of grain in 2007 is calculated to 1.3 million tonnes, an increase of 2 per cent from 2006. The total grain area came to 3.1 million decares in 2007.

Total production of wheat, barley and oats. 1995-2007. 1000 tonnes

The total grain harvest consisted of 416 700 tonnes of wheat, 518 100 tonnes of barley and 283 800 tonnes of oats in 2007. Including all grain crops, average grain yield per decare was calculated to 407 kilos. Most grain was grown in the counties of Østfold, Akershus and Hedmark, accounting for 57 per cent of the total grain area and 61 per cent of the total grain harvest.

Average decare yield of wheat for the country as a whole was calculated to 459 kilos in 2007. The largest yield per decare was achieved in Hedmark with 485 kilos. The area of wheat increased by 7 per cent to 908 000 decares in 2007. About one third of this area was in the county of Østfold.

The barley area was reduced by 109 000 decares to 1.39 million decares in 2007. Average decare yield of barley for the entire country was 373 kilos, almost the same as the year before.

The area of oats sown decreased by 11 000 decares to 718 000 decares in 2007. The decare yield of 395 kilos is about 60 kilos more than in 2006.

The number of holdings growing grain and oil seeds was reduced by 600 from 2006 to 14 700 in 2007. The average grain area per holding increased from 204 decares in 2006 to 214 in 2007.
