Average grain yields in 2010
The total grain production in 2010 is estimated at 1.22 million tonnes; an increase of 16 per cent from the year before. The prognosis indicates an increase for all types of grain since 2009, but mostly for wheat and barley.
According to preliminary estimates from The Norwegian Agricultural Purchasing and Marketing Co-operation, the total grain harvest consisted of 293 000 tonnes of wheat, 528 000 tonnes of barley, 292 000 tonnes of oats and 32 000 tonnes of rye in 2010. Including all grain crops, average grain yield per decare was calculated at 407 kg compared with 341 kg the year before.
Decreasing wheat area
The area of wheat decreased by 12 per cent to 719 600 decares in 2010. The area of oats sown decreased by 6 per cent to 759 300 decares in 2010. Average decare yields of wheat and oats were calculated at 407 kg and 385 kg respectively in 2010.
The barley area increased by 7 per cent to 1.42 million decares in 2010. Average decare yield of barley was 362 kg.
A total of 13 800 holdings grew grain in 2009. From 2001 to 2010 the average grain area per holding increased from 157 to 229 decares.
