Unchanged investments in agriculture

The total investments in farm buildings and machinery for agriculture and horticulture amounted to NOK 3.7 billion and NOK 3.0 billion respectively in 2011. Measured in fixed 2011-prices, the investments increased by 2 per cent from 2008.

About 15 per cent of the holdings invested in farm buildings in 2011, one percentage point more than in 2008. Converted to 2011-prices, the average investment per holding with investment was NOK 531 000 in 2011, NOK 525 000 in 2008 and NOK 450 000 in 2005.

Holdings with dairy production represented 29 per cent of the total investments in farm buildings in 2011. Farms with pig and poultry as main productions had the largest investments per holding atNOK 1.1 million, while farms with sheep and farms with cereals and oil seed had the smallest average investments.

About 82 per cent of the holdings had maintenance expenditures on the farm buildings in 2011. The total maintenance expenditures made up to NOK 1.1 billion, or around NOK 29 000 per holding with maintenance.

Same level of investments in machinery and implements

Investments in machinery and implements for agriculture and horticulture amounted to NOK 3.0 billion in 2011. About 32 per cent of the holdings invested in new or second-hand machinery and implements. Corresponding figures for 2008 and 2005 were 31 and 29 per cent, respectively. Average investments per holding with investments in 2011 were NOK 212 000.

Leasing of machinery amounted to NOK 704 million in 2011. The holdings with leasing contracts paid in average NOK 98 000 in leasing fee in 2011, compared to NOK 91 000 in 2008.

Total consumption of electricity decreased

The total consumption of electricity in agriculture and horticulture fell from 1.11 billion kWh in 2008 to 1.03 billion kWh in 2011. The average consumption per holding decreased by 2 000 kWh to 24 000 kWh.

The consumption of diesel per holding was 3 000 litres in 2011, unchanged from 2008. The energy consumption is not adjusted for holdings with lack of information, and energy consumption in greenhouses is not included in the figures.
