Less labour input to agriculture
From 1 June 2004 to 31 May 2005 a total of 120 million man-hours were used in Norwegian agriculture, including horticulture.
The labour input to agriculture and horticulture in 2004/05 was 11 million man- hours less than two years earlier. This represents a decline of 6 000 full time man-years. At the same period the number of farms decreased by 5000 holdings, see http://www.ssb.no/english/subjects/10/04/10/stjord_en/ , which is a major explanation to the decline in labour input.
Holders and spouses/cohabitants carried out 72 per cent of the labour input. Family members, regularly and temporarily employees and self-employed persons conducted the remaining part. Men still carry out about 75 per cent of the labour input to agriculture and horticulture.
