Decline in labour input in agriculture
From 1 June 2006 to 31 May 2007, the number of man-hours in Norwegian agriculture was 110.9 million. This is 8.8 million less than two years ago and a decline of 4 800 full-time man-years.
The decrease in labour input is reflected by the decline in the number of holdings. In the same period, the number of farms decreased by 3 200 holdings. The average labour input per holding was 2 230 man-hours, which is slightly lower than two years ago.
Holders, spouses/cohabitants and family members carried out 80 per cent of the labour input, as compared to 87 per cent in 1998/99. Regular and temporary employees and self-employed carried out the remaining part. Men still carry out about 75 per cent of the labour input in agriculture.
The labour input also covers forestry and supplementary industries: 3.5 million man-hours in forestry and 6.5 million man-hours in supplementary industries.
