Decrease in sea fishing of salmon

In 2004, the total catch of wild salmon and sea trout in the Norwegian fjords amounted to 478 tonnes.

The average weight was 4.1 kilo in 2004, as compared with 3.7 the year before. 22 per cent of the salmon caught weighed below 3 kilos, 53 per cent between 3-7 kilos and 25 per cent above 7 kilos.

Finnmark is the most important county for sea catches of salmon, with a total catch of 106 tonnes in 2004. There has been a decrease in catches in the northern counties, while the catches increased in Sør-Trøndelag, Møre og Romsdal and Sogn og Fjordane.
