Continued increase in forest planting

In 2012, plants covering a total of 140 000 decares were planted; an increase of 15 000 decares from the previous year. A total of 26 million forest plants were planted.

Hedmark and Oppland were the counties where most forest area was planted, and 43 per cent of all forest planting in Norway was carried out here. In Hedmark county a total of 35 000 decares were planted in 2012; an increase of 40 per cent from the year before. In Oppland county, 28 000 decares were planted.

More tending of young stands

In total, 297 000 decares of young forest were tended in 2012; 26 000 decares more than in the previous year.

Scarification was carried out on a total of 50 000 decares in 2012, which is at the same level as in 2011.

NOK 284 million invested

NOK 284 million was invested in silviculture in 2012, of which NOK 131 million was invested in forest planting and NOK 108 million in tending. The remaining amount was invested in scarification, clearing, fertilizing and similar work. Government subsidies accounted for NOK 63 million of the costs.
