Slight decline in forest planting
In 2009, a total of 13 700 hectares were planted; 170 hectares less than in 2008. The area of young forest tending increased by 4 per cent.
Most planting in Oppland
Oppland was the county where most forest area was planted. A total of 2 800 hectares were planted in this county; an increase of 250 hectares from the previous year. In Hedmark and Nord-Trøndelag, 2 700 and 2 000 hectares were planted respectively.
Less forest plants1
Even though the planted area decreased, less1 forest plants were planted. In 2009, a total of 22.7 million plants were planted; 340 000 less1 than in 2008.
More tending of young stands
In total, 31 200 hectares of young forest were tended in 2009; 1 300 more than the previous year.

In total, 740 hectares were sprayed in 2009, which is 80 hectares more than the year before.
Little drainage
There has been a sharp decline in drainage of bogs and woodland in recent years. This is mainly due to greater environmental awareness and reduced profitability. The reduction in drainage works in 2007 coincides with the disappearance of public subsidies to these activities in 2007. In 2009, drainage work was not registered.
Increased investments
In total, NOK 252 million was invested in silviculture in 2009. Of this, NOK 111 was invested in forest planting, NOK 107 million in tending and NOK 11 million in scarification. The remaining amount was invested in clearing, fertilising and such like.
Tending of young standsTending of young stands consists of clearing, weed combating and juvenile spacing - all work that is done in connection with the establishment of new forest. ScarificationScarification involves the removal of vegetation in spots to improve conditions for natural regeneration and growth of forest plants. |
