Increase in meat production
A total of 318 000 tonnes of meat from domestic animal production were approved for the market in 2008; an increase of 21 000 tonnes from 2007.
Pork accounted for 39 per cent of the total meat production in 2007, while beef and poultry accounted for 29 and 27 per cent respectively.
From 2007 to 2008, the production of meat from poultry increased by 20 per cent. Since 2003, the production has increased by more than 70 per cent, from 45 900 tonnes in 2003 to 84 000 tonnes in 2008.
