Small changes in meat production

A total of 150 300 tonnes of meat from domestic animals were approved for human consumption during the first six months of 2011; an increase of 0.6 per cent from the same period last year.

In total, 64 400 tonnes of pork, 41 500 tonnes of poultry, 40 500 tonnes of beef and veal and 3 600 tonnes of mutton and lamb were approved during the first half of 2011.

Compared with the first half of 2010, the production of meat from cattle and poultry was almost the same in 2011. The production of meat from pigs increased by 1 300 tonnes or 2 per cent from 2010 to 2011.
