Cultural purposes accounted for 3.8 per cent of all expenditure
Local authorities spent NOK 10.4 billion of their net operating expenditure on cultural purposes in 2014. Thirty-two per cent of these funds were used for sports, while 14 per cent was spent on public libraries. Municipal music and culture schools also accounted for 14 per cent of the funds.

Other cultural activities including cultural centres were allocated 23 per cent of local authorities ' net expenditure for cultural purposes in 2014. Cinemas and museums got the lowest part, with 0.6 and 3.6 per cent respectively.
Local authorities’ net operating expenditure for cultural purposes represents 3.8 per cent of their total net operating expenditure. Local authorities spent an average of NOK 2 016 per capita on cultural purposes in 2014. This was an increase of NOK 95 compared to 2013 and NOK 157 compared to 2012.
NOK 400 million for art and cultural arrangements
The annual KOSTRA figures also include county authorities’ operating expenditures on cultural purposes. County authorities’ net operating expenditure on cultural purposes was NOK 1.6 billion in 2014, which represents 1.8 per cent of their total net operating expenditure. The county authorities’ spent NOK 400 million on art and cultural arrangements, NOK 390 million on museums, NOK 215 million on sports and NOK 147 million on public libraries.
