Sharp increase in the compensation of employees

Compensation of the employees in the households sector1 for the first quarter of 2007 is 10 per cent higher than the level a year ago. Property income received excluding dividends was also up by 13 per cent compared with the same period of 2006.

Disposable income, Q1 2004-Q2 2007, Households and NPISHs

The increase in the compensation of employees in the households has a close connection to the higher wages and the increase in the level of employment. There were 90 000 more people that are employed in the second quarter of 2007 compared with the second quarter of 2006.

Developments in the incomes are highly influenced by the volatility of the dividend incomes. Divident income figures move up and down due to the changes in tax regulations. According to the preliminary figures of the stock statistics of Statistics Norway, Norwegian households and non-profit institutions serving households received NOK 6 billion in dividends in 2006, while this figure was NOK 100 billions in 20042. The estimates of institutional sector accounts have a higher estimate for dividends in 2006 compared to the stock statistics. The new information about the dividends will first be integrated in the calculations for the next data release in November.

Due to the preliminary figures at the moment, increase in the disposable income excluding dividends was 4.9 per cent from the second quarter of 2006 to the second quarter of 2007, while the growth in real terms was 4.3 percent.

Negative saving ratio in the second quarter

Saving ratio for households and non-profit institutions serving households has been -3.5 per cent in the second quarter of 2007, while it was positive for the first quarter.

Revisions of 2006

Quarterly institutional sector accounts are based on the preliminary calculations. The uncertainty is larger for the last quarter of the year. New information is continuously integrated in the figures.

New information has resulted in a revision of the figures so that the savings ratio for the first quarter of 2007 is revised down to 4.1 per cent.
