Holiday homes concentrations
Most holiday homes in Buskerud county
Published:
Buskerud county has more holiday homes than any other county in Norway, and one quarter of holiday homes areas are situated in Buskerud. All together Norwegian holiday homes concentrations occupy more than 200 square kilometres. These are some of the results in a new survey about holiday homes concentrations.
Holiday homes concentrations are areas with at least 50 weekend and holiday homes situated at a distance not exceeding 150 metres from each other. Urban areas and water areas are not included in the concentration areas.
There are 464 concentrations of weekend and holiday homes in Norway in 2002, and these concentrations occupy a total area of 201 km 2 . This equals the area of half of Oslo county. Buskerud county has most of the concentrations, followed by Vestfold with 54, covering 19,4 square kilometres, and Oppland with 52 concentrations, covering 20,2 square kilometres.
Large regional differences
There are considerable regional differences in the number of concentrations of weekend and holiday homes and the share of such houses within these concentrations. In the counties along the Oslo fjord, more than 40 percent of the weekend and holiday homes are situated within concentrations. There are also a lot of concentrations along the coast from Oslo to Stavanger, and in some of the mountain areas of southern Norway. In the northern and western parts of Norway however, there are few concentrations and less than 5 percent of the weekend and holiday homes in these parts of the country are found within concentrations.
Holiday homes more concentrated in Sweden
In Sweden 28 per cent of the holiday homes are situated in concentrations, while the corresponding figures for Norway are 17,5 per cent. In both countries there are a lot of concentrations along the coast and close to large concentrations of population, and less further North in the countries.
