Small changes in the extraction of natural resources
The economy-wide flow accounts show that about 318 million tonnes of natural resources were extracted in Norway in 2013. The extraction of fossil energy dominates with 203 million tonnes. Over the past five years, there has been a gradual increase in the extraction of raw metal ores.

The economy-wide flow accounts are based on instructions in Regulation (EU) No 691/2011 on European Environmental Economic Accounts. Norway has annual reporting obligations under the regulation.
In 2013, about 38 million tonnes of natural resources, other products and waste were imported, while exports of the same materials were 207 million tonnes. The exported goods mainly contain fossil energy materials and carriers, which comprised 77 per cent of the total exports. Fossil energy materials have clearly the largest share both in domestic extraction of natural resources and exports.
The figures indicate a gradual increase of 28 per cent in exports of metal ores and concentrate, both raw and processed from 2008 to 2013, and the same trend is also visible in the domestic extraction of raw metal ores.
