Growth in sewage and sanitation

The turnover increased by 8 per cent for companies involved in sewage and refuse disposal, sanitation and similar activities.

The 948 local kind-of-activity-units (KAUs) involved in sewage and refuse disposal, sanitation and similar activities had a total turnover of NOK 10.6 billion in 2005. Employment in the sector increased in this period by 2.6 per cent to 6 159 people in 2005.The gross investment in the industry was NOK 1.1 billion in 2005.

Businesses involved in the collection and treatment of other waste represented about 90 per cent of the total turnover within sewage and refuse disposal. The 432 local KAUs within this industry class experienced a growth in turnover of 8.1 per cent, up to NOK 9.2 billion in 2005. The number of people employed increased by 0.7 per cent from 5 014 in 2004 to 5 049 people in 2005.

The local KAUs within sanitation, remediation and similar activities experienced a growth in turnover from 2004 to 2005 by 8.4 per cent, from NOK 291 million to NOK 318. The industry consisted of 378 local KAUs in 2005, and these employed a total of 337 people.

The industry class collection and treatment of sewage had a total turnover of NOK 1.0 billion in 2005. 773 people were employed in the 138 local KAUs.

Local KAUs and enterprises

The structural statistics are published on both enterprise and local KAU level. The figures on the enterprise level may differ from those on local KAU level. This is due to some enterprises being registered in one industry group after main activity, while at the same time consisting of local KAUs in other groups.
