Decline in public purchasing

The public sector purchased NOK 205 billion worth of goods and services in 2001. This is a decline of 8.2 per cent compared to the previous year. The main reason for this decline is that assets of the state's direct financial interests (SDFI) on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) were sold off.

Public purchasing covers expenditure on goods and services and on gross fixed capital formation in central and local government, and similar purchases undertaken by state and municipal quasi corporations.

The general government share of the overall public purchases was 81 per cent or NOK 166 billion. The remaining 19 per cent where purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises.

The overall public purchases amounted around 14 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

Great decline in public enterprises

In 2001, the public unincorporated enterprises' share of the overall public purchases amounted to NOK 38.5 billion. This is a decline of NOK 30.4 billion, or 44.1 per cent. The main reason for this decline is that assets of the state's direct financial interests (SDFI) on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) were sold off.
