Increase in public purchasing

In 2002 the public sector purchased NOK 221 billion worth of goods and services - an increase of 9.1 per cent compared with the previous year.

The general government portion of the overall public purchases was 81 per cent or NOK 180 billion. The remaining 19 per cent were purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises.

The overall public purchases amounted to 14.5 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

In general government the purchases totalled NOK 179.6 billion in 2002. This is an increase of NOK 10.3 billion, or 6.1 per cent.

What is public purchasing?

Public purchasing covers expenditure on goods and services and on gross fixed capital formation in central and local government, and similar purchases undertaken by state and municipal quasi corporations.

Increase in public enterprises

In 2002, the public unincorporated enterprises' share of the overall public purchases amounted to NOK 41.6 billion. This is an increase of NOK 8.1 billion, or 24.1 per cent.

Revised figures 1995 - 2000

Statistics Norway has carried out a revision of general government finance. Because of this the figures of public purchases are also revised for the period 1995 - 2000.
