Increase in public purchasing

In 2005, the total public purchases of goods and services amounted to NOK 276 billion. This is an increase of NOK 19 billion, or 7.5 per cent, compared with 2004. Public purchases amounted to 14.0 per cent of gross domestic product.

Of the total increase of NOK 19 billion, public unincorporated enterprises increased their purchases by NOK 12.7 billion, while purchases made by general government increased by NOK 6.5 billion.

The general government proportion of the overall public purchases was 76 per cent or NOK 210.4 billion. The remaining 24 per cent were purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises.

Public enterprises

Total purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises amounted to NOK 65.8 billion in 2005. This is an increase of NOK 12.7 billion, or 24 per cent, compared with 2004. The large increase is due to an increase of NOK 16.1 billion in the oil sector.

General government

Purchases made by general government units amounted to NOK 210.4 billion. This is an increase of 6.5 billion, or 3.2 per cent, compared with the previous year. Increases in purchases in both central government and local government contributed to the increase in total purchases for the general government.

What is public purchasing?

Public purchasing covers expenditure on goods and services and on gross fixed capital formation in central and local government, and similar purchases undertaken by state and municipal quasi corporations. Numbers for 2004 and 2005 are provisional.
