High tax payments in 2001

In 2001 distributed taxes amounted NOK 442 billion. This is an increase of nearly 84 billion, or 23.4 per cent, compared with 2000. Taxes on the extraction of petroleum are the largest contributor to the growth.

Taxes on petroleum reached nearly NOK 107 billion in 2001. This is a large increase compared with January to December 2000, when the contribution of petroleum taxes was approximately NOK 56 billion.

Excluded petroleum taxes: 10.8 per cent increase

Total tax income, excluding taxes on the extraction of petroleum, indicates an increase of 10.8 per cent compared with 2000. Excluding the petroleum taxes, the total tax revenues amounted to NOK 335 billion, compared with NOK 302 billion in 2000. A reason for the rise is increased payment in non-personal taxpaying arrangement and a general rise in wages and employment.

Total tax paid to local government amounted NOK 104.4 billion, and this is a rise of 15.7 per cent compared with the same period last year. The increase in the income tax is due to increased tax rate to municipalities, against an equivalent reduction in tax equalization tax.

Each county has an increase in tax income compared with 2000. Østfold has the largest rise in tax revenue, 14.9 per cent. Møre og Romsdal has the lowest of 6.9 per cent.
