Increased tax revenues in 2003

In 2003 distributed taxes totalled NOK 450 billion - an increase of NOK 21.5 billion, or 5.0 per cent, compared with 2002. Increased tax payments from the extraction of petroleum contributed to the rise in total tax payments.

Petroleum taxes amounted to NOK 97.4 billion in 2003 - an increase of 12.4 per cent compared with 2002, when the petroleum taxes reached NOK 86.6 billion. Tax payments excluding petroleum taxes increased by NOK 10.9 billion, or 3.2 per cent.

Contributions to both the National Insurance Scheme and local governments increased by 5.6 and 6.6 per cent respectively compared with 2002, while total tax paid to the central government decreased by 1.9 per cent.

The municipalities in Vest-Agder County had the largest increase in tax income, 10.0 per cent compared with 2002.
