Large increase in petroleum tax income

In the period January-February 2009, total tax payments amounted to NOK 126.8 billion. This is an increase of NOK 39.7 billion or 45.5 per cent compared to 2008. The large growth is due to NOK 35.6 billion of revenues from taxes on petroleum.

Excluding taxes on petroleum, the growth in tax revenue was moderate. Total tax payments amounted to NOK 91.1 billion; an increase of NOK 4.3 billion or 4.9 per cent compared to 2008.

Tax payments to municipalities increased by NOK 455 million or 3.2 per cent to NOK 14.5 billion. Tax revenue to county municipalities totalled NOK 3 billion; an increase of NOK 119 million or 4.2 per cent compared to 2008.

Employer contributions to the National Insurance Scheme were NOK 22.4 billion; an increase of NOK 1.6 billion or 7.7 per cent. Compared to the same period in 2008, member contributions grew by NOK 933 million or 9.2 per cent to NOK 11.1 billion.
