Tax payments excluding petroleum taxes up 4.9 per cent

In the period January to May, total tax payments amounted to NOK 357.2 billion. This is 3.4 per cent or NOK 12.6 billion less than the same period in 2008.

Paid and distributed taxes by county. Change in per cent, January-May, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009

The decrease is due to a reduction in petroleum taxes in this period as a result of a new system for payments of petroleum taxes.

Tax payments excluding petroleum taxes amounted to NOK 286 billion, which is an increase of 4.9 per cent or NOK 13.3 billion compared to 2008.

NOK 56 billion to municipalities

Ordinary taxes to municipalities grew by 8 per cent to NOK 56.1 billion. Ordinary taxes to county municipalities totalled NOK 11 billion; an increase of 4 per cent compared to the same period in 2008.

Employer and member contributions to the National Insurance Scheme constituted NOK 60.5 and NOK 43.7 billion respectively, which corresponds to an increase of 6.3 and 9 per cent respectively compared to 2008.

Changes in the payments of petroleum taxes

The system for payments of petroleum taxes was changed with effect from the summer of 2008 from two yearly terms (1 April and 1 October) to six yearly terms (1 August, 1 October, 1 December in the income tax year, and 1 February, 1 April and 1 June in the following year).

This led to a strong increase in the petroleum taxes in the first three months of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008, but also means that the payments as of May 2009 are lower than in 2008.
