Continuing growth in tax revenues

At the end of May, NOK 407.9 billion had been paid in taxes in Norway. This represents an increase of 8.3 per cent, approximately NOK 31.4 billion.

Paid and distributed taxes by county. Change in per cent, January-April 2010 to 2011 and 2011 to 2012

The greatest contributor to government tax revenues is the tax equalization contribution to central government, which amounted to NOK 125 billion at the end of May. Other sources of income, such as employers' contributions to the National Insurance Scheme, ordinary taxes received by municipalities, and member contributions to the National Insurance Scheme were also important this month. At the end of May, the accumulated sums amounted to NOK 68.6, 59.2 and 51.9 billion respectively. The corresponding growth rates are calculated at 6.6, 3.4 and 6.2 per cent respectively.

NOK 268 billion of the accumulated tax revenues were paid through the advance tax arrangement, amounting to a 6.3 per cent increase from the same period last year. A total of NOK 139.5 billion has been paid through the non-personal taxpaying arrangement so far this year. With the exception of petroleum taxes, the tax equalisation contributions to the central government have been the most important source of income for the non-personal taxpaying arrangement. NOK 8.9 billion was collected in May and the total for this year now stands at NOK 59.7 billion.

Compared to last year, ordinary taxes paid to the central government show the greatest percentage increase at about 38.8 per cent. Due to changes in the income system, ordinary taxes received by the municipalities have experienced only a slight increase of about 3.4 per cent so far this year. Accumulated ordinary taxes to the central government and municipalities were calculated at NOK 16.6 and 59.2 billion respectively.

Merging of municipalities

The municipalities of Mosvik and Inderøy were merged as Inderøy. In table 3, the changes in per cent from last year will be based on the sum of the two municipalities last year.
