Soaring revenues from petroleum taxes

By the end of August, a total of NOK 567.8 billion had been paid in taxes in Norway. This represents an increase of 9 per cent, roughly NOK 46.9 billion, from the corresponding period in 2011. Approximately a quarter of the accumulated tax revenues stem from taxation on extraction of petroleum, which grew at the considerable rate of 18.3 per cent.

Paid and distributed taxes by county. Change in per cent, January-August 2010 to 2011 and 2011 to 2012

So far this year, the tax payments from petroleum extraction amount to NOK 150.1 billion. Both ordinary taxes on extraction of petroleum and payments from special income tax on extraction of petroleum experienced a considerable increase compared to last year; 17.9 per cent and 18.6 per cent respectively. By the end of August, payments received by the government from taxation on extraction of natural resources had exceeded the tax equalisation contribution to the central government. The latter experienced an increase of just 2.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The accumulated payments from the advance tax arrangement amounted to NOK 350.8 billion at the end of August, showing a moderate 7.1 per cent increase. The employer contributions to the National Insurance Scheme and the tax equalisation contribution to the central government explain over half of this amount. Compared to the same period last year, these sums grew 6.5 per cent and 8.5 per cent respectively.

Merging of municipalities

The municipalities of Mosvik and Inderøy were merged as Inderøy. In table 3, the changes in per cent from last year will be based on the sum of the two municipalities last year.
