More in tax payments

By the end of February, a total of NOK 141.5 billion was paid in taxes in Norway. This is an increase of 10 per cent, or NOK 12.9 billion compared to the same period last year. A large part of the increase comes from the taxes on petroleum extraction.

Taxes on petroleum extraction totalled NOK 36.7 billion by the end of February. This is an increase of NOK 7.9 billion or 27.6 per cent from the same period last year.

More payments from advance tax arrangement and employer contributions

Another source of the increase of tax payments in February was the advance tax arrangement and employer contributions. NOK 75.9 billion was paid from these groups. Compared to last year this is an increase of NOK 4.3 billion or 6 per cent. A big part of this increase comes from the National Insurance Scheme, which has increased by NOK 1.3 billion or 10.4 per cent to NOK 13.5 billion.

By the end of February, the municipalities and county authorities had received NOK 18.4 billion, which is a decrease of 4.7 per cent or NOK 916 million compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the central government received NOK 47.8 billion, which is about NOK 3 billion or 6.6 per cent more than last year. The reason for the decrease for the municipalities and county authorities and the increase for the central government is changes in the income system.

Merging of municipalities

The municipalities of Mosvik and Inderøy were merged as Inderøy. In table 3, the changes in per cent from last year will be based on the sum of the two municipalities last year.

Lower taxes to municipalities due to changes in the income system

Our figures show that a larger part of the taxes are paid to the central government and a smaller part to the municipalities. This is the result of some recent changes in the income system for the municipalities. The changes involve a lower tax rate at the municipality level and higher subsidies from the central government.
