25 per cent increase in revenues

The budget approved by the Storting for 2001 shows a total revenue of NOK 679 billion. This is 25 per cent higher than the final budget for 2000 when total revenue amounted to 545 billion. Allocations to the government petroleum fund are estimated to NOK 177 billion during 2001.

Compared with the final budget for 2000 the approved budget suggests a 25 per cent increase in central government revenues to NOK 679 billion. Total expenditure for 2001 is NOK 503 billion. The growth in central government revenues is due to significant operation surplus from extraction of petroleum as well as an increase in tax revenue. The surplus before net transfers to the government petroleum fund amounts to 177 billion in 2001.

Even though the budget shows a 177 billion surplus, the gross financing requirements is NOK 61 billion. The gross financing is mainly due to the transfers to the government petroleum fund, which are expected to be 177 billion in 2001.
