Increased surplus

Surplus before net transfers to the government petroleum fund is estimated to NOK 138 billion in the approved budget for 2003. This is an increase of NOK 20.6 billion, or 17.6 per cent, compared with the final budget for 2002.

The tables for central government revenues and expenditures by main item and expenditures by program have now been updated. The new tables show the approved budget for 2003, the final budget for 2002 and accounting figures for previous years.

Revenues go up

Total revenues are calculated to NOK 717 billion in the approved budget for 2003. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 19.9 billion compared with 2002. The central government's total expenditures are amounting to NOK 579.1 billion in 2003, and this is a reduction of 0.1 per cent. The decrease is mainly due to the extra ordinary transfers to county municipalities in 2002 related to the change in ownership of public hospitals.

The expenditures of the National insurance scheme are estimated to NOK 215.7 billion in the government's approved budget for 2003. This is a growth of more than NOK 11 billion, or 5.4 per cent, compared with the final budget for 2002.
