In the Central government budget proposal for 2005 total expenditure amounts to NOK 655 billion, and total revenue amounts to NOK 785 billion. This is due to an increase in the expenditure of 5.2 per cent, and an increase of 12.5 per cent in the revenue, compared with the approved budget for 2004.

In the budget proposal for 2005, the expenditure in the fiscal account excluding National Insurance Scheme shows a rise of 5.1 per cent, and the expenditure of National Insurance Scheme shows a rise of 5.5 per cent. In the budget revenue for 2005, the operating surplus from extraction of petroleum is estimated to NOK 73.2 billion. This represents an increase of 39.7 per cent compared with the 2004 budget.

The Governments proposed fiscal budget for 2005 has a surplus of NOK 130.1 billion before net transfers to the government petroleum fund. The corresponding figure for the budget approved for 2004 was NOK 75.7 billion.
