Continued increase in government income

In the third quarter 2004, the Central government fiscal account including the National Insurance Scheme shows a total income of NOK 117.6 billion. This is an increase of NOK 10.9 billion, or 10.2 per cent, compared with the same period last year.

The raise in government income is mainly due to increased transfers of taxes. Increased operating surplus from extraction of petroleum also contributes to the increase.

Contemporary, the total expenditures show a modest increase of 6.5 per cent compared with the third quarter last year, from NOK 133.2 to 141.9 billion. The increase in government expenditures is primarily due to increased transfers.

Together the increase in income and expenditure make a deficit before net transfers to the government petroleum fund of NOK 24.2 billion. This is a decline in deficit of NOK 2.2 billion compared with the third quarter 2003.
