Increase in government revenues

In the approved central government budget for 2005 total expenditures amount to NOK 655 billion and total revenues NOK 785 billion. This represents an increase in expenditures of 5.2 per cent and an increase in revenues of 12.5 per cent compared with the approved budget for 2004.

The approved budget for 2005 shows a 5.3 per cent rise in expenditure excluding the National Insurance Scheme. National Insurance Scheme expenditure shows a rise of 5.0 per cent. The operating surplus from petroleum extraction is estimated at NOK 73.2 billion, an increase of 39.7 per cent compared with the 2004 budget.

The government budget has a surplus of NOK 130.1 billion before net transfers to the Government Petroleum Fund. The corresponding figure for 2004 was NOK 75.7 billion.

Statistics Norway has updated the tables for central government revenues and expenditures by main items and expenditure by programme. The tables now show the approved government budget for 2005 and 2004 as well as accounting figures for previous years.
