Growth in government surplus

In the second quarter of 2007, the central government fiscal account including the National Insurance Scheme shows a total surplus of NOK 179 billion before net transfers to the Government Pension Fund - Global. This is an increase of NOK 32 billion compared with the second quarter of 2006.

Total revenues increased by NOK 29 billion to NOK 361.3 billion compared with the second quarter of 2006. The increase in government revenues is largely due to increased tax revenues of NOK 25.1 billion in the second quarter of 2007 compared with second quarter of 2006. Total expenditure decreased by 1.6 per cent from the second quarter of 2006 to NOK 182.6 billion in the second quarter of 2007.

Transfers to the Government Pension Fund - Global increased from NOK 67.1 billion to NOK 71.6 billion. This is an increase of NOK 4.4 billion, or 6.7 per cent.

The quarterly figures are subject to chance variations and must be interpreted with caution.
