Increased costs for asphalt work

Figure 1 shows that the asphalt work costs have increased by 17.0 percent during the last four quarters from a bottom level in the first quarter of 2016. The observed fluctuations have significant impact from variations in the oil prices and is reflected particularly in the costs related to materials in asphalt work.

Since asphalt work is having a major impact on some of the other sub-indices, we see an increase in these too. Construction costs for open air roads increased, for example, by 5.5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2016. The road construction costs in total increased by 4.6 per cent from the first quarter of 2016 to the first quarter of 2017.
