Road construction costs up 4 per cent

Road construction costs increased by 4.0 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the fourth quarter of 2010. The material costs rose by 4.7 per cent, while costs of labour and machinery increased by 4.0 and 3.0 per cent respectively in the same period.

The construction costs of concrete bridges rose the most, by 4.9 per cent. The costs of rock tunnels and open air roads increased by 3.8 and 3.6 per cent respectively.

From the third quarter to the fourth quarter last year the total road construction costs rose by 1.1 per cent.

The maintenance cost of roads increased by 4.4 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the fourth quarter of 2010. In the same period the construction costs of asphalt work rose by 5.1 per cent.
