Higher costs for concrete bridge construction

The construction costs for concrete bridge rose by 2.6 per cent from the second quarter to the third quarter, and have increased by 6.5 per cent so far this year. Most of the increase can be explained due to high steel prices.

The costs of open air roads and rock tunnels rose by 0.7 per cent and 1.0 per cent respectively from the second quarter to the third quarter, and have increased by 2.8 per cent and 2.3 per cent respectively so far this year.

The construction costs of roads increased by 1.2 per cent from the second quarter to the third quarter this year, and are 4.7 per cent higher than a year ago.

The costs of maintenance of roads rose by 1.0 per cent from the second quarter to the third quarter, and are 3.6 per cent higher than at same time in 2003. The asphalt work and winter maintenance increased by 1.5 per cent and 1.2 per cent respectively from the second to the third quarter.
