Road construction costs up 0.6 per cent

Road construction costs rose by 0.6 per cent from the first to the second quarter of 2009. Material costs increased by 0.9 per cent.

The construction costs of open air roads rose the most, with a 1.7 per cent increase during the last quarter. The costs of rock tunnels remained unchanged, while the costs of concrete bridges decreased by 1.5 per cent.

The maintenance costs of roads increased by 1.31 per cent from the first to the second quarter of 2009. In the same period, the construction costs of asphalt work rose by 4.5 per cent.
