Road construction costs up

Road construction costs increased by 5.4 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2010 to the fourth quarter of 2011. The machinery costs rose by 7.2 per cent, while materials and labour costs increased by 6.4 and 4.6 per cent respectively in the same period.

The construction costs of open air roads rose the most, by 6.3 per cent. The costs of concrete bridges and rock tunnels increased by 4.5 and 3.7 per cent respectively. From the third to the fourth quarter of 2011, the total road construction costs rose by 0.3 per cent.

The maintenance cost of roads increased by 6.1 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2010 to the fourth quarter of 2011. In the same period, the construction costs of asphalt work rose by 11.6 per cent.
