Road construction costs up
Road construction costs increased by 1.3 per cent from the first to the second quarter of 2013. The machinery costs rose by 3.1 per cent, while labour and materials costs increased by 1.2 and 0.8 per cent respectively in the same period.

The construction costs of open air roads rose the most, by 1.6 per cent. The costs of rock tunnels and concrete bridges increased by 1.0 and 0.8 per cent respectively. From the second quarter of 2012 to the second quarter of 2013, the total road construction costs rose by 3.0 per cent.
Road maintenance costs increased by 0.7 per cent from the first to the second quarter of 2013, and are 1.4 per cent higher than in the second quarter of 2012.
