Minor changes in road construction costs

Road construction costs increased by 0.5 per cent from the first quarter to the second quarter of 2014. Labour costs rose by 1.0 per cent, while material and machinery costs increased by 0.5 and 0.3 per cent respectively in the same period.

The construction costs of concrete bridges rose by 1.0 per cent in the second quarter of 2014. In the same period, the costs of open air road and rock tunnels both increased by 0.4 per cent. From the second quarter of 2013 to the second quarter of 2014, the total road construction costs rose by 2.1 per cent.

Road maintenance costs increased by 0.6 per cent from the first quarter to the second quarter of 2014, and are 3.4 per cent higher than in the second quarter of 2013.
