Moderate increase in road construction costs

Road construction costs increased by 0.5 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2015. Material and labour costs rose by 1.8 and 0.4 per cent respectively, while machinery costs decreased by 1.0 per cent in the same period.

From the fourth quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2015, the construction costs of concrete bridges, rock tunnels and open air roads rose by 2.9, 2.6 and 0.9 per cent respectively.

Road maintenance costs decreased by 1.5 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2015, and are 0.8 per cent lower than in the first quarter of 2014.
