Construction costs rose by 1.1 per cent

The construction cost of residential buildings in Norway increased by 1.1 per cent in January 2001 compared with December 2000. Material costs rose by 1.4 per cent in the same period. The cost of electricians increased the most.

Over the course of the past month the index for electrical work increased by 3.2 per cent for detached houses and 3.4 per cent for multi-dwelling houses. The index for carpentering work increased by 1.8 per cent for both types of buildings.

Overall construction costs for residential buildings rose by 5.4 per cent in January 2001 compared with January 2000. Material cost increased by 5.1 per cent in this period.
