Construction costs up 0.7 per cent

The index of residential buildings increased by 0.7 per cent from July to August this year. Labour costs rose by 1.5 per cent and material costs increased by 0.2 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 3.8 per cent in August 2002 compared with Auagust 2001. Labour costs and material costs increased by 6.2 and 2.4 per cent respectively, in the same period.

Wage statistics for the second quarter of 2002 are included in the construction cost figures for August and contribute to a labour cost increase in August.
