Construction costs up 3.3 per cent

The index of residential buildings rose by 3.3 per cent in December 2002 compared with December 2001. Material costs increased by 2.1 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of multi-dwelling houses rose by 3.7 per cent last year, while detached houses of wood increased by 3.2 per cent. In the same period material costs of multi-dwelling houses and detached houses of wood increased by 2.6 and 2.0 per cent respectively.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 0.9 per cent during the last month in 2002. The material costs remained unchanged in the same period. Wage statistics for the third quarter in 2002 are included and contributed to an increase of labour costs by 2.2 per cent in December compared with November last year.
