Rebasement of construction costs

From January 2003 a new base for the construction cost index for residential buildings is taken into use. According to Eurostat regulation the base for the construction cost index is changed from January 2000=100 to year 2000=100. All indices are adjusted in all the tables.

When new construction cost changes are calculated, all the indices involved must be taken from the adjusted tables.

Construction costs up 0.5 per cent

The construction costs rose by 0.5 per cent from December last year to January this year. Material costs increased by 0.6 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of multi-dwelling houses rose by 0.5 per cent last month, while detached houses of wood increased by 0.4 per cent. In the same period material costs of multi-dwelling houses and detached houses of wood both increased by 0.6 per cent.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 3.6 per cent from January 2002 to January 2003. The material costs increased by 2.2 per cent in the same period.
