Construction costs up 3.7 per cent

The index of residential buildings rose by 3.7 per cent in March 2003 compared with March 2002. Material costs increased by 2.3 per cent in the same period.

On an annual basis, the construction costs of multi-dwelling houses rose by 4.6 per cent, while detached houses rose by 3.5 per cent.

The construction costs of detached houses rose by 0.3 per cent last month, while multi-dwelling houses remained unchanged. The material costs for plumbing increased the most, by 3.5 per cent for detached houses of wood and 3.4 per cent for multi-dwelling houses in the same period.
