Construction costs up 2.6 per cent

The index of residential buildings rose by 2.6 per cent in September 2003 compared with September 2002. Material costs increased by 2.0 per cent in the same period.

On an annual basis, the construction costs of multi-dwelling houses rose by 2.8 per cent, while detached houses rose by 2.5 per cent last year. The index for electrical installations for detached houses and multi-dwelling houses increased by 4.8 and 4.6 per cent respectively in the same period.

The last month the construction costs of detached houses increased by 0.1 per cent, while multi-dwelling houses rose by 0.3 per cent.
