Construction costs up 1.2 per cent last month

The construction costs of residential buildings increased by 1.2 per cent from September to October this year. This is the highest monthly growth that is noticed since September 2000. The material costs rose by 1.8 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of detached houses of wood rose by 1.2 per cent, while multi-dwelling houses increased by 1.0 per cent from September to October this year. The material costs rose by 1.9 and 1.6 per cent respectively in the same period. It is the material costs of carpentering that contribute the most to the growth.

From October last year to October this year, the construction costs of residential buildings increased by 4.7 per cent, while the material costs rose by 5.1 per cent in the same period. The construction costs of multi-dwelling houses increased by 5.1 per cent, while detached houses of wood rose by 4.5 per cent. The material costs increased by 5.6 and 4.9 per cent respectively the last year.
