Continued increase in prices of timber

The high prices of timber result in expensive building of detached houses of wood. The last year, the construction costs of detached houses of wood have rose by 9 per cent and multi-dwelling houses have increased by 6.2 per cent in the same period.

The high prices of timber have contributed to carpentering of detached houses of wood have increased by 11.2 per cent last year. The material costs of carpentering of detached houses of wood have rose by 14.6 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 7.9 per cent last year. The material costs rose by 11.3 per cent in the same period.

Wage statistics for the first quarter of 2007 are included in the construction costs index for May 2007.
